The Google BeyondCorp service was born out of this development, and has led to the popularization of a new network security approach within enterprises called the software-defined perimeter (SDP). Google was among the first companies to embrace this new approach-initially as a way to connect Google employees to their internal applications-and spent six years creating zero-trust networks. In its paper, Forrester discussed how the zero-trust security model is built around the idea that enterprises should not inherently trust any user or network, and the belief that any attempt to access a business system or application must always be verified before any level of access is granted.
